A “Flying Beetle” adventure. Britain has opened an air route to Japan across the Arctic, with aerodromes and fuel depots along the way, but aircraft on it are disappearing, and at least one is found riddled with bullets. The frontispiece and jacket are by Howard Leigh (c. 1909–1942), one of the leading aviation artists of the 1930s, best remembered as illustrator of the earliest Biggles books by W. E. Johns, who guided his early career.
